Our Story

A Voice for Good began with the simple faith of a visionary young Utah native. In late 2016, Paul Schwartz set into motion a life-long dream of creating a musical arts group dedicated to bearing testimony of Jesus Christ and sharing His love. Enlisting fellow BYU students and others interested, he organized a volunteer choir and chamber orchestra to perform Rob Gardner’s sacred oratorio, “Lamb of God.” The response received at these Easter 2017 performances was astounding, and the outlines of a volunteer-led, service-focused organization began to take shape.

2018 saw the official incorporation of A Voice for Good as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, led by a board of dedicated community members and university students. The artistic year included performances of both “Lamb of God” and CJ Madsen’s “One Fold, One Shepherd,” with a volunteer choir and full orchestra.

In 2019, two choirs were formed, one performing “Lamb of God” while the other participated the first professional recording of “One Fold, One Sheperd”. The first Christmas-season choir organized by A Voice for Good performed in late 2019.

2020 was another incredible year, including the beginnings of a chapter of A Voice for Good at the University of Utah, with a spring interfaith choir organized and directed by Miranda Evans. In addition, CJ Madsen and David Kime created the first full-length program designed specifically for the A Voice for Good choirs, titled “Oh, What Songs of the Heart,” including well known hymns, favorite folk songs, and arrangements by both directors. While the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the concerts to be cancelled days and weeks before they were set to perform, it was a wonderful reminder that the true purpose of A Voice for Good is to bless the lives of each of those who participate, regardless of the opportunity to perform a final concert. Despite the pandemic, A Voice for Good was able to participate in the virtual Fall 2020 Utah ACDA Choral Conference via recorded broadcast.

The beginning of 2021 saw new opportunites for recordings and broadcasts with unprecedented online and social media reach. As the organization continues to expand, plans include choral tours in summer 2023 and summer 2030, as well as a weeklong summer choral program for youth and children in Utah County during summer 2024. Choirs will continue to perform each season, focusing on music that bears testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, shares His love for all of God’s children, and unifies our communities to do good and to become a more unified voice for good.

We are humbled at the Lord's hand as He continues to help the organization grow and bless people in miraculous ways.
